BOROUGH SUFFER HEAVY DEFEAT TO JDS SPORTING

COVENTRY BOROUGH 2–10 JDS SPORTING

MATCH REPORT

Coventry Borough suffered a difficult afternoon as JDS Sporting eventually ran out 10–2 winners, despite a much more competitive performance than the final score line suggests.

Borough started the game positively and showed some encouraging patterns of play, looking to get on the ball and create opportunities against a strong JDS side.

After falling behind, Owen Harvey, after a through ball in behind from Wonderboy Khambule, found the net with a brilliant finish into the bottom corner giving Borough something to build on in the 35th minute. At the break, JDS held a 3–1 advantage, but the game remained very much alive.

Borough came out strongly after half-time and were on top for much of the opening 15 minutes of the second half. The hosts began creating chances, forcing corners and putting JDS under sustained pressure as they looked for the goal that would bring them right back into the contest.

Unfortunately, Borough couldn't turn that spell of pressure into a goal, and when JDS struck again, the momentum of the game changed completely.

That proved to be the major turning point. Borough struggled with their reaction to conceding and began to lose the defensive shape and structure that had helped them compete for large periods of the match. JDS took advantage as the game became increasingly stretched and added to their lead.

Despite the difficult second half, Borough continued pushing and Andrew Watts found the net in the 80th minute for the side's second goal of the afternoon.

There were further positives from two debutants. Wonderboy Khambule made an immediate impact from the bench, registering an assist within just 10 minutes of coming on, while Leo Patridge also impressed on his debut before unfortunately being forced off after taking a knock.

The final scoreline is a difficult one to take, but there were clear periods where Borough showed what this group is capable of. The next step is learning how to maintain that level throughout the game and, crucially, how to react when a goal goes against them.

The manager also takes responsibility for the loss of defensive structure as the game progressed, with Thursday's training set to focus heavily on defensive shape, organisation and transitions.

Attention now turns to New Spires away, where Borough will be looking for a response and those all-important first three points.
