STRONG BOROUGH DISPLAY ENDS IN HARSH DEFEAT

JDS SPORTING 4–1 COVENTRY BOROUGH FC

MATCH REPORT

Coventry Borough were left frustrated on the road as a competitive contest turned late on, with JDS Sporting scoring three times after the 80th minute to claim a 4–1 victory.

The final scoreline did not reflect a match that remained finely balanced for long periods, with Borough disciplined, compact and fully in the game.

FIRST HALF

Both teams started strongly, but Borough quickly settled into their game plan.

JDS were allowed possession at the back, while Borough stayed compact through the middle and pressed once the ball was worked into the full-back areas.

The hosts opened the scoring after a right-sided attack saw their winger cut past two players and finish low into the bottom corner.

Borough responded well and deservedly levelled in the 35th minute when Dan McCarthy showed great composure to slot the ball under the keeper.

SECOND HALF

Borough continued to defend with discipline and limited JDS largely to efforts from distance, while also creating chances of their own and having opportunities to go ahead.

The game stayed level deep into the second half, but once JDS made it 2–1 after the 80th minute, Borough pushed the midfielders higher in search of an equaliser.

That naturally left more space for the hosts to exploit, and JDS added two further late goals to make the final score 4–1.

The scoreline was harsh on Borough, who had remained competitive and firmly in the game for over 80 minutes.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

Lewis Carter, Louis Todd and goalscorer Dan McCarthy were among Borough’s standout performers.

The midfield three put in a huge shift throughout, with the role demanding a lot physically, while the effort from every single player was outstanding.

GAFFER’S THOUGHTS

There was plenty to build on despite the result.

The game plan worked well, the shape stayed compact and the commitment from the whole side was excellent.

We allowed JDS to have possession in areas that didn’t hurt us and made it difficult for them to play through the middle.

The biggest lesson is managing the final 10–15 minutes better and making sure strong performances turn into the results we need.
